What is Your Opinion? Due Friday 3/4

Read this week’s Time for Kids and respond by writing your opinion about one of the topics found in the magazine. There’s lots of interesting stuff to write about: the Supreme Court, top dogs, Stephen Curry, and a debate over whether or not kids should get homework over school breaks. Β Use the graphic organizer I sent home in your homework to help you organize your writing. Β Make sure you state your opinion clearly, give three reasons with examples (can you cite an example from the text?), and state your opinion again at the end. Use transition words to link it all together. Β You can post your opinion here.

I strongly believe that kids should NOT have homework on school breaks because it is stressful and it makes people feel trapped!

First of all, I think kids need to spend more time with their family because you only have weekends to spend with them until the breaks come around and you do not want to be stuck in your room doing homework.

Next, I think it is stressful because you feel the pressure and you would rather be doing other things that are more important with your family when you are on break. You feel so stressful and you may not have a lot of time to do it.

Finally, I think it makes you feel trapped because homework keeps us home from doing other things like friends, family, video games and gymnastics! You have to be in your room at home or sitting at a desk doing your homework while your friends are doing something else fun.

Those are the reasons why I think we should NOT get homework on breaks.

I strongly believe that kids should NOT have homework over the breaks!

    My first reason is:
Kids need the time to spend with their families. Breaks are over the holidays
and that time is for our family & friends, without the stress of thinking about school!

    Next is my second reason:
Kids need to recharge and relax on the couch πŸ™‚ and not always do homework on the breaks. It is stressful! πŸ™

    My final reason is:
That the teachers look over our homework every week. Ms.McMinn grades about 40
pieces of homework every week. Imagine what it would be like on the breaks. I’m saying that teachers need a break too! πŸ™‚

Stephen Curry is ONE of the best basketball players in the NBA because…

My first reason is he broke a TON of records. One of the records that he has broken is when he broke the record for three-pointers in a season.

My second reason is that he is good at getting around the defender so he can get to the basket.

My last reason is that he can shoot over 30 feet! This season he has recorded 12 shots over 30 ft.

I strongly believe that kids shouldn’t have homework over break. I feel kids should be spending time with family and relaxing. School work also takes time away from other activities like video games and friends. Finally, I think that kids would get easily distracted, since they are not on a regular school schedule.

First of all, you should be spending time with family during breaks from school. I know that school is important and all, but family always comes first, no matter what. For example, some breaks are holiday breaks. Most families spend the holiday’s together. Other breaks are made so you get time away from school (and stressful homework.)

Another reason we shouldn’t have school over breaks is because homework takes time away from other fun activities. For example video games and even math games. Some video games can be educational, so that children can still learn away from school.

Finally, a lot of kids are busy during breaks, whether or not they want to be. Some will get easily distracted by the fun activities they are missing out on. This is especially true for holiday breaks. What kid would choose staying home and doing homework over sledding and visiting Santa?

I feel that homework during school break is unfair to kids and their families because family should always comes first.

  5. Drake says:

I think that kids should NOT have homework over school breaks. One reason is it is called SCHOOL BREAK! Another reason is in the article it says,” School breaks are a time to rest and recharge.” My last reason is you might not have time to do it because they are visiting family or something.
I think that kids should NOT have homework over school breaks.

  6. Sadie Baker says:

I think that kids should not get homework because studies have shown that homework is actually bad, because it takes time away from imagination and playing. And after so much learning it good to have a break and recharge. It is also important to spend time with your family.

  7. EIRIK says:

Kids should not get homework on school breaks because it takes time away from there pre PLANNED family activates. Plus, they wouldn’t have time to relax or play outside! Finlay, one of the main reasons why we get breaks off of school, are to not focus of school work and studding. At last, I think we shouldn’t get homework on school breaks!

  8. Alex says:

I think that kids shouldn’t get homework over school break because you can have fun with your family, you don’t have to worry about getting homework done, and you can learn even when you are not in school.
First of all, I think that kids shouldn’t have homework during school break because you can have fun with your family. Some examples of this are that you can bake, travel, and play games together. According to the TFK article, Arman states that school breaks are also a time for kids to be with their families.
Additionally, I think that kids shouldn’t have homework over school break because you shouldn’t have to worry about having to get homework done on your break. Humans are not meant to have stress and work hard all the time. As Arman describes in the TFK article, people need times when they can relax and recharge.
Lastly, I don’t think kids should have homework during school breaks because you can learn things even when you are not in school. You can be out in the community helping people, going to museums or aquariums, or traveling to new cities. You can learn lots of things going to these places that you can’t learn from books.
Now you know that I think kids should not get homework over school breaks.

  9. Gunnar says:

In my opinion I think kids shouldn’t have home work on school breaks. ACTUALLY I THINK KIDS SHOULD NEVER HAVE HOMEWORK!!!!!!! I HATE HOMEWORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😈😬😈😬😈😬πŸ’₯πŸ’₯🚫πŸ’₯πŸ’₯🚫 I don’t think kids should have homework on school breaks because we could just do it in school and have a longer day. Also I think kids should be able to recharge and get to hangout with friends and family. Also sometimes somepeople go on trips and might be busy or have to miss out on fun stuff that is why I think kids shouldn’t have homework on school breaks.

  10. Evan says:

The Reasons Kids Should NOT Get Homework on the Weekend!!
I believe kids should not have to go through homework on breaks, because they need time for themselves, have family time and time to relax and enjoy the time you are having. Kids need to have some time to have some fun. Example going to the park or playing some video games. Often times family members come out during breaks to come and visit but when there is homework it might get in the way of your family. For example, if my family came and stayed there for the whole break I am going to miss homework. When there is a break coming up kids are looking forward to relax and chill out. For example, if I am waiting for break to start I might want to rest on the couch but then before the break starts you might get homework thrown at you left, right and center. In conclusion, that is why kids should not get homework over break.

  11. Hendrick says:

I strongly believe that kids should not get homework over the break for two reasons.
During breaks kids should be able to spend time with their families,
another reason is breaks are some time away from school.

One reason I think kids should not have homework on the school breaks is because they should be able to spend time with their parents, if kids have homework they won’t be to spend time with them. Second of all, they would not be able to have fun,

The second reason is that breaks are time away from school, if you have homework
it might feel like you have to go to school the next day.

I hope you think the same as me!

  12. Jake says:

Stephen Curry is a basketball player who plays in the NBA for the Golden State Warriors. In my opinion, Stephen Curry is changing how the game is played in the NBA.

First of all, he owns the single season record for most 3 pointers. This is making the defense players come out further to guard him. Consequently, this opens up the inside lanes.

Second, he is very fast. From my point of view the defenders get confused trying to guard him.

Third, he is on pace this season to break his own 3 point record. I am confident he will make more 3 pointers then any season before.

In conclusion, I am convinced that Stephen Curry is one of the best players to ever play and is changing the game of basketball with every shot he makes.

  13. LUKAS says:

I strongly believe that children should not have homework during school breaks. Sometimes people need a break from all the learning and to get their minds off all the math and writing so they can relax. My second reason is because if you have homework on Christmas Eve, when your dad says time to open your presents you have to do homework so you couldn’t. You also won’t be able to see anybody else open their presents. The last reason is because if you are doing homework you can’t go outside and smell the fresh air and play with all your friends right? It’s not healthy to cram yourself inside all break! It’s like watching TV for 17 hours straight! I believe that kids shouldn’t have to do homework on school breaks.

  14. Palmer says:

I think we SHOULDN’T have homework over breaks. One reason is we need some time with our family, in the article Arman said ” School breaks are also a time for kids to be with their families.” Also we need time to relax and take a break, in the article Arman said” We need to relax, recharge, and take a break.” One last reason is we need time to be with are friends.

One reason is we need time with our family. Some of my best memories have been over Winter break in Sunriver with me, my Mom, my Dad, my Aunt and Uncle and Nick, Matt and Josh ( my cousins,) one time me, Nick, Matt and Josh had a huge snowball fight. In the article, Arman said “Most school breaks are during holidays when families get together.” Also if we had homework over breaks we wouldn’t have as much time with are family to watch a movie, go on a walk or talk with each other. My last reason is sometimes families just need to chill with each other.

Another reason is we need time to relax. I love to read and during breaks I do a lot of it. Another reason is sometimes we just need to chill. One last reason is we would have less time to play video games.

My final reason is we need time to hang out with our friends. My friend Nicki goes to a different school and I see her every Spring break. I really like riding bikes and during Spring break I have a lot more time to ride bikes. One last reason is sometimes you just need to talk with your friends.

I hope I have convinced you that we shouldn’t get homework over breaks.

  15. Tara says:

In my opinion I think we should have a little homework over school breaks for 2 reasons. Number 1 is that we can forget lessons we’ve been taught and it keeps you occupied instead of playing video games all day.

I think we should have some homework over breaks because we can forget lessons we learn in class. If that happens the teacher will have to start over and teach it again. Not having to repeat lessons leads to learning more and faster during the school year.

Another reason I think we should get homework over breaks because it keeps you occupied instead of playing video games and watching T.V. all day. If you watch T.V. all day it is really bad for your eyes. Although it’s fun it is bad for your eyes.

For these reasons I think we should have a little homework over breaks. Because we can forget lessons and it keeps you occupied.

  16. Katherine says:

I think kids should get homework over school break. If you don’t agree, I’ll tell you why I think so.
My first reason is because it helps us remember what we learned in class. I remember going back to school after break, and forgetting what I learned.
My second reason is because it keeps us intertained. All break I feel board, and homework will keep me busy.
That is why I think we should get homework over school break.

  17. Gianna says:

I think kids should not get homework over breaks.
My first reason is, usually on breaks there is a holiday. and when there is holiday people usually like to go and see their family.
My second reason is, I usually like to hang out with my friends that go to different schools. I never really get to see them.
My last reason is, breaks are when kids get a break! Kids want to have fun sometimes!!
I strongly think that kids should NOT get homework over breaks.

  18. Beatrice says:

I think we should get homework over the breaks. A little, but not a lot, because it pushes us to remember the things we’ve learned, it lets us spend time with our families, but do homework at the same time, and it gives us something to do.

My first reason why we should get homework over the breaks is that it pushes it to remember the things that we learned in class. First, the things that we learn shouldn’t just go in one ear and go out the other. We should push ourselves to remember them. Second of all if you get homework over breaks it helps us keep the things that we learn in our minds because you work on the things you learned on paper and/or a computer. Third because when you do homework over breaks it helps you master the skills that you learned.

My Second reason why we should have homework over breaks is because you can work on it with your family. For example if you work on your homework with your family at home it gives you a chance to go over it with them. During the regular school year they might not be home to help you with your homework. Second, you can’t work on your homework in class or at school with your parents because they don’t go to school. When you do your work on your homework with your parents they get a chance to see what your learning about in school. Third after your done doing your homework you can give it to your parents to look over and make sure the answers are all right. It gives your parents a little challenge and you get to make sure your answers are right. It’s a win-win!

My third reason why you should get homework over break is that it’s gives you something to do. For example… Have you ever found yourself sitting around during a break and thinking “Boy, I wish I had something to do.” Well guess what? If you have homework you won’t be thinking about that you’ll be thinking “What is two tenths equal to.” Second, instead of watching TV you can educate yourself by doing math problems or even reading. Third, think about when you don’t have school you have six extra hours of free time! That’s a lot! If you have homework then you can keep yourself busy during those six hours.

I love everybody else’s opinions, but I think we should get homework over breaks because, it pushes us to remember the things we learned, we get to spend time with our families and do our homework at home, and it gives you something to do.

i have A QUESTON! do we have to turn in the opinion writing paper?

  20. yuneli says:

On Should Kids Get Homework Over School Brakes, There are lots of opinions I choosed but these are the top 3 i chose from the article:

Should Kids Get Homework Over School Brakes?

I think NO because you need some time with family, and you need a little break of working very hard and most of all because you need to get outside to excersize.

    1. imagine having homework and having to do it all, when your cousins or friends are there at your house wanting to play with you and having to wait along time for you to finish up?

    2. a hard day at school is finally over! then you have school break and you just feel so tired doing your boring homework, you need a relaxing break because of all the great hard work you have done and without homework on school breaks that relaxing time is your whole school brake.

    3. You need to get outside! doing homework is good for your brain but if your always doing your homework you wonΒ΄t have any time to go outside or clean up.

this is why I THINK and am glad there is NO homework on school brakes.

  21. Kaylee says:

In my opinion I think we shouldn’t have homework over break.
My first reason is during break you should spend time with your family and make memories.
My second reason is you could be having so much fun or you could be busy over break. Also, when you experience new things you’re learning even though you’re not in school.
Finally, why I think you shouldn’t have homework over the break is because that’s when you should relax your mind and not focus on math, reading, spelling or any other school related things.
That’s why I think we shouldn’t have homework over break.

  22. Ava says:

I strongly believe that kids should not have homework during School breaks
My first reason is because when kids have breaks kids are supposed to have some time down maybe play with a few friends before you has to go back to all the learning .
My second reason is because if we have homework on a holiday, homework and holidays don’t go together. Holidays are supposed to be with with family to celebrate beliefs or love or thanks.
My last reason is every single day the week Monday through Friday we have to learn and that means homework has to come along with it . So we should at least get some time where we don’t have to do any homework.
So I believe that no one should have to do homework on school breaks.
